Prince George’s Co. police officer indicted on child abuse charge

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — A Prince George’s County Police officer has been indicted on child abuse charges after he allegedly hit a toddler, causing a concussion.

State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said in a news release Tuesday that 26-year-old Francesco Marlett was indicted on charges of child abuse and assault.

Prosecutors say on Dec. 27, Marlett was watching his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son while she was making dinner. Authorities say the boy soiled the bed and Marlett began to spank him, causing the child to hit his head against the wall and lose consciousness.

Alsobrooks says the boy was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for a concussion and a bruise above his eye.

Prosecutors say Marlett is suspended without pay.
