Woman wakes up in the middle of rape at College Park apartment

WASHINGTON — Prince George’s County police say they are looking for an unknown assailant responsible for breaking into a woman’s home and raping her.

Police said the rape and burglary occurred at approximately 6 a.m. Saturday at an apartment in the 4500 block of Fordham Lane in College Park.

The woman said she awoke as she was being raped. When she made a noise, the man — described only as wearing a dark hoodie and khaki pants — fled. The apartment building and apartment were unlocked.

Prince George’s County police returned to the neighborhood Saturday afternoon, questioning neighbors in a bid to further their investigation.

“We’re hoping to get any leads, just to jog someone’s memory who may have been in the area at the time, who may have seen anything or heard anything,” said Prince George’s County police Cpl. Nicole Hubbard.

Those with any information regarding this incident are encouraged to contact police (911 or 301-352-1200).

Although the woman is not a University of Maryland student, campus police issued a safety alert, reminding the community to keep windows and doors locked.
