Police make arrest in fatal Suitland stabbing

WASHINGTON — A 26-year-old District Heights man was fatally stabbed early Monday morning in Suitland and police say they have arrested his killer, who was walking near the crime scene.

Prince George’s County police say Nelson H. Ford, 36, of Bladensburg, faces a first-degree murder charge for the death of Willard D. Smith.

Police found Smith suffering from a stab wound in the 4700 block of Huron Avenue and he was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

While investigating, police learned details about Smith’s attacker. Police then “spotted Ford walking nearby and took him into custody.”

Police say the stabbing was not a random crime but provided no additional details.
