Virginia Tech Head Coach Frank Beamer will retire

WASHINGTON — Frank Beamer, head coach of the Virginia Tech Hokies, told his coaching staff early Sunday that he is retiring at the end of the regular season, according to sources.

Beamer, 69, will retire as the winningest, active coach in FBS, where in 29 seasons, he compiled a 234-120-2 record at his alma mater.

The Hokies won four ACC titles, three Big East championships and appeared six times in BCS bowl games.

Virginia Tech won Saturday 26-10 over Boston College, to improve to 4-5, and will next be in action Thursday, Nov. 12 at Georgia Tech, with the last home game for Beamer against North Carolina on Nov. 21.
