Man dies after being trapped under car in Silver Spring

WASHINGTON — A 30-year-old man who was injured after being hit by and trapped underneath a car in Silver Spring, Maryland, early Saturday morning has died.

A Toyota Corolla driven by Noellie Espinal Rosario, 40, was traveling on Piney Branch Road before Garland Avenue. The pedestrian, identified as Inmar Alejan Garmendez-Escobar, was lying in the road before being struck around 1 a.m. Police say he may have suffered an injury before being struck by the car but are still investigating the type and cause of the injury.

Garmendez-Escobar was trapped underneath the car and had to be freed by rescuers before being taken to the hospital in critical condition. He died at the hospital later, according to Prince George’s County police.

A portion of Piney Branch Road between Flower Avenue and Baron Street was closed for several hours as police investigated but the road reopened around 6 a.m.

The cause of the crash has yet to be determined. Police ask anyone with information to call 240-773-6200.
