Police seek suspect in Silver Spring carjacking (Video)

WASHINGTON – Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the man who robbed a Silver Spring gas station and carjacked a woman as she was filling up her tank, and whom they say is linked to three similar robberies.

The Montgomery County police have released surveillance video of the robbery and carjacking that happened Nov. 25 at the Shell station at 9510 Georgia Ave.

The video shows the man entering the store attached to the gas station at about 6:05 p.m., taking out a plastic bag, displaying a gun and demanding money and cigarettes. After the store clerk complied, the suspect ran to the gas pumps.

There, he pulled the gun on a woman sitting in her black 2008 Scion xD at a pump, presumably ordering her out of the car. As she left the car, a bystander tried to intervene, but the suspect showed the gun to him as well, and he backed off. The suspect got into the car and drove away. No one was hurt.

The police say they think it’s the same man who robbed a nearby BP station, at 9475 Georgia Ave., three times between Oct. 5 of last year and Oct. 18 of this year.

If you know anything about any of these robberies, the police ask you to call them at 240-773-5070, or call anonymously to Crime Solvers of Montgomery County at 1-866-411-TIPS. There’s a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest and/or indictment.
