WASHINGTON — A medical field training exercise planned by Naval Support Activity Bethesda this week may involve simulated sounds of gunfire and occasional yelling, a military spokesman said.
The exercise — combat casualty training for medical students — is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, and for Aug. 17 and Aug. 18 in the woods and a pond near Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences located at 4301 Jones Bridge Road.
A spokesman for Naval Support Activity Bethesda said the simulated sounds are part of the realistic training and are no cause for alarm.
Walking trails near the pond will be closed during the exercise.
The advance notice comes as a result of a similar July 6 incident, in which sounds were interpreted as gunfire and resulted in response by law enforcement.
