Rabid bat identified in Gaithersburg

WASHINGTON — Animal control officers on Tuesday captured and euthanized a bat that tested positive for the rabies virus at the Potomac Oaks Condominiums, in the 800 block of Quince Orchard Boulevard in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

The Montgomery County Health Department asks that if you or your pet have been in contact with a bat in this area in the past few weeks, call 240-777-1755 immediately.

Rabies can be fatal to exposed humans or animals if they do not receive treatment.
