WASHINGTON — A Hagerstown man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend in a department store parking lot in Germantown has been ordered held without bond.
Donald Wayne Bricker, 27, answered a judge’s questions with one-word answers at his bond review where prosecutors alleged the registered sex offender had ordered a firearm through the mail to kill 24-year-old Mariam Folasade “Sade” Adebayo.
Police say Bricker shot and killed Adebayo in a Germantown Target parking lot June 1. Bricker is charged with first degree murder.
At Friday’s hearing, Assistant State’s Attorney Debbie Feinstein told Judge John C. Moffett that Bricker, knowing he was barred from buying regulated firearms because he is a registered sex offender, purchased an antique-style weapon that operates using black powder through the mail. She said on the very day the firearm was delivered to him, Bricker used the gun to kill Adebayo.
Also, Feinstein told the judge Bricker had 100 rounds of ammunition and that there was surveillance tape of the killing.
Police say Adebayo had broken up with Bricker after they dated for six months, but that Adebayo agreed to meet with him outside the Target department store in Germantown after he threatened to harm himself.
The two were reportedly fighting inside a car when Adebayo got out of the vehicle. Prosecutors say Bricker shot Adebayo once, and when she hit the ground, he approached and shot her a second time, then fled. Bricker was arrested after he crashed the car he was driving in Darnestown.
Bricker was ordered held without bond, but his defense attorney, Aubrey Dillon, argued that bond should be set for his client. He said Bricker has ties to the area and was employed in doing home repairs, something that gave his client a sense of accomplishment.
Judge Moffett responded saying he didn’t think he had any choice but to deny bond given the seriousness of the charge: first degree murder.
