Following complaint, Montgomery County shelves mentions of popular elf holiday toy

WASHINGTON — There is uproar in Montgomery County after its police department removed its Twitter and Facebook mentions of two popular holiday toys.

One person complained that the “Elf on a Shelf” and “Mensch On A Bench” dolls were offensive, according to a Bethesda Now report. “Due 2 complaint,” the county police tweeted, “photo/posts of Elf on Shelf & Mensch on Bench have been removed. No offense intended. We r sorry.”

Police spokesman Paul Starks says the department has received positive feedback about the dolls. On Facebook, fans questioned why anyone would be offended by the figurines, which were brought along during the county’s annual Santa Ride, Bethesda Now reports.
