3, 2, 1: Wah! New Year’s babies arrive soon after midnight

WASHINGTON — One of the first babies born in 2018 was delivered in a Montgomery County, Maryland, hospital while many of you were still sipping your celebratory Champagne.

The newborn entered the world just a few minutes after midnight at Adventist Healthcare Shady Grove Medical Center in Germantown.

The happy and healthy baby girl was born at 12:03 a.m., according to a hospital spokeswoman. The New Year’s baby and her parents will be going home with a gift basket full of toys, books, clothes and other essentials.

In Annapolis, Anne Arundel Medical Center says its first baby was a little girl who arrived at 1:57 a.m. That’s the second busiest hospital in Maryland when it comes to deliveries, with about 5,500 babies born there every year.

A baby was born at 3:21 a.m. in D.C.’s Sibley Memorial Hospital.

WTOP reached out to Inova Hospital but due to patient privacy policies, it would not release information about babies born on New Year’s Day.
