WASHINGTON — Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said the man who fired several shots in an Ashburn, Virginia, shopping plaza Friday turned himself in Saturday afternoon.

At around 9 p.m. Friday in the One Loudoun area, John H. Abel, 48, of Catlett, Virginia, was involved in a dispute with a known female, discharged the firearm into the air, and threatened to harm himself before the gun was taken away from him, police said.

He ran away from the area, but the firearm was recovered at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

No injuries were reported at the scene, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said.

Abel is charged with domestic assault, brandishing a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm and discharging a firearm in a public place.

Abel is held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on a secured bond.
