WASHINGTON — Several communities are offering residents sandbags or components to create their own bags, in an effort to shore up their residences in preparation for the heavy rains expected to continue to pelt the region for the next few days.
In Alexandria, sandbags can be picked up Friday until 5 p.m. at King and Lee streets, and until 9 p.m. at 133 S. Quaker Lane.
Residents must show proof of residence or business ownership to receive the bags and return the bags after the storm. More information is here.
In the District, DC Water is distributing sandbags to customers in Bloomingdale, LeDroit Park and the 900 block of P Street NW, at First Street and Rhode Island Avenue NW at 10 a.m. “Please note that sandbags will only be distributed to residents in these targeted neighborhoods and they may be asked to show proof of residency at the distribution site,” DC Water says in a statement.
