WASHINGTON — The L’Efant Plaza Metro station has been evacuated and is temporarily closed due to smoke in the station. Delays are significant.
Metro Transit Police and fire department personnel are on scene trying to determine the source of the smoke.
Tunnel fans are working to ventilate the area but trains are being turned back in the downtown area.
“I certainly wouldn’t count on going to L’Enfant for your evening commute,” Metro’s Dan Stessel tells WTOP.
While Green and Yellow lines are primarily affected, there are delays on almost every line except for Red.
- Green Line service is suspended between Navy Yard and Mt Vernon Square.
- Yellow Line service is suspended between Pentagon City and Mt. Vernon Square.
- Blue/Orange/Silver line trains won’t stop at L’Enfant Plaza.
Metro is urging riders to consider alternate travel options, including Metrobus.
