DC police officer dies in head-on car crash

WASHINGTON — A D.C. police officer was driving home when died in a head-on car crash in Howard County Monday morning.

Barry Eastman, a 31-year-old of Ellicott City, was traveling northbound on Route 32 in Clarksville, Maryland, around 8 a.m. when his Kia Forte unexpectedly crossed the center line, hitting a tractor trailer head on.

Eastman was the sole occupant of the car and died at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt.

D.C. Police said Eastman was driving home from finishing a shift earlier that morning.

Officials have not yet released details about what caused Eastman to drive into oncoming traffic. The crash caused Route 32 to close for several hours Monday morning.

Eastman, a four-year veteran of the force, served in D.C.’s Third District. The department will not conduct a separate investigation into his death.
