PHOTOS: Remembering the Sept. 11 terror attacks, 19 years later

Americans are remembering the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, which claimed 3,000 lives when hijacked planes slammed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Nineteen years after the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil, the nation is still grappling with the aftermath of that day.

On Friday, Americans are commemorating 9/11 with tributes that have been altered by coronavirus precautions and woven into the 2020 presidential campaigns.
