Four English Premier League sides put on a show Sunday afternoon in FedEx Field, scoring eight goals in two matches as part of its Summer Series preseason tournament.
In the second match of the doubleheader, Chelsea scored twice in the first half to defeat its London rivals Fulham 2-0. Brazilian defender Thiago Silva crashed in with a header goal off a corner kick, which was followed by a Christopher Nkunku tap-in before halftime.
With the win, Chelsea won the preseason tournament with two wins and one draw.
In the first match, Brenford and Aston Villa scored five goals in the first half before settling to a 3-3 draw. Brenford jumped out to an early two-goal lead in the opening 23 minutes, capped off by a bending long-range goal from Josh Dasilva.
However, Aston Villa stuck back with three straight goals in 10 minutes to capture the lead. In the 66th minute, Shandon Baptiste tied the game for the Bees to earn the draw.
The doubleheader drew 46,346 spectators to FedEx Field.
Sunday’s matches also capped off the end of a five-city tour of six teams playing three matches each as part of their preparation for the regular season. In total, 264,779 fans attended this year’s Summer Series matches.
The D.C. region normally ranks in the top five markets for English Premier League broadcasts.
The English Premier League is set to begin on Aug. 11.
