PHOTOS: Inside the most expensive ‘iconic and rare’ home for sale in DC

Listed at $26.5 million, the most expensive home on the D.C. market is a Georgetown estate that combines three properties, more than 16,000 square feet and more than 200 years of history under one roof.

The list of notable former owners and residents of the property includes Georgetown Mayor Thomas Beall, Secretary of War Newton D. Baker, former Miss America Yolande Fox and, most famously, former first lady Jackie Kennedy. She had purchased the home in December 1963, a month after the assassination of her husband, former President John F. Kennedy, but only lived there for six months.

Another notable owner was Stanley Woodward, a distinguished diplomat with the U.S. State Department who was appointed the U.S. Ambassador to Canada.

“An alternative like this doesn’t really exist … It’s just such an iconic and rare property, and in the scheme of real estate in the United States, Georgetown is Georgetown and has its wonderful and desirable characteristics. And this property is one of the major, major estates or compounds — or however you want to call it — within Georgetown,” Jonathan Taylor, listing agent and managing partner of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty, told WTOP.

The property at 3017 N St. NW was constructed between 1791 to 1798. Across the property, there is a total of 13 bedrooms, 13 full bathrooms, five half-bathrooms, six kitchens, six to eight laundry facilities and a three-car garage. There was a brick addition in 1860. The property at 3003 N St. NW was built in 1888, and the final property at 3009 N St. NW was constructed in 1950.

“It is a phenomenal perch in the most desirable little section of Georgetown,” Taylor added. “It’s a lifestyle unto itself and once you’re inside this, it’s your own world. I think it’s an awesome investment that will never diminish in its uniqueness and value.”

In 2016, a neighbor purchased the home following the death of Yolande Fox and combined the two homes by extending his  garage back farther into the land and adding a tunnel underneath.

The property at 3017-3009-3003 N Street NW is listed by Jonathan Taylor and Maxwell Rabin of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty.
