Matt About Town x WTOP Wedding Week: The process of crafting a unique engagement ring is more complex and thrilling than you think. Take a behind-the-scenes look

Wedding Week on WTOP is a 5-part series that explores wedding planning, budgeting and more on air and online. This story is part 4.

See how a one-of-a-kind engagement ring is crafted

Tying the knot this time of year is a pretty popular thing to do. But have you ever wondered how that perfect engagement ring ends up on your perfect person’s finger?

In today’s episode of “Matt About Town,” WTOP’s Matt Kaufax takes us behind the scenes to craft a one-of-a-kind engagement ring at Dominion Jewelers in Falls Church, Virginia.

From sketching a design to casting a mold to forging your perfect, one-of-one ring with molten metal, the making of an engagement band is a lot more complex and involved than you think. It’s also a lot more thrilling when you see the (sometimes explosive) process up close!

As Matt also found out, you almost have to have an engineering degree to perfect the art of ring-making today.
