Matt About Town: Uncover hidden remnants of DC’s prehistoric past alongside city fossil hunter

Uncover hidden remnants of DC’s prehistoric past

In D.C., history is all around us. But have you ever explored the city’s prehistoric past?

In today’s episode of Matt About Town, WTOP’s Matt Kaufax heads to the National Gallery of Art for a tour like no other alongside a D.C. “fossil hunter!”

Whether they’re in the walls, the floor panels or even in the museum’s men’s bathroom, Matt found that if you really focus and open your eyes, you can find fossils memorialized everywhere. They’re part of the very foundations that make up some of the District’s most iconic and intricate buildings.

Come along with Matt as he goes back in time hundreds of millions of years, and surprises a few museum guests in the process.

“Matt About Town” airs every Tuesday and Thursday on WTOP at 7:45 a.m., and runs throughout the rest of the day on 103.5 FM. His video pieces are always posted on wtop.com.

You can also find Matt’s videos on Instagram (@wtopnews and @mkaufax) and TikTok (@wtopnews and @mattabouttown_).
