The famed cherry blossom trees that line the Tidal Basin in D.C. have reached peak bloom and thousands of visitors have come into the city to see them.
The peak bloom period happens when 70% of the Yoshino cherry blossoms are open, which normally lasts about a week depending on the weather.
Over the weekend, the Metro transit system broke a record with over 710,000 rail trips taken and over 131,000 trips taken to the Smithsonian Metro stop on Saturday, March 29.
According to 2024 data, the National Cherry Blossom Festival brought in $202 million in visitor spending.
