We’re celebrating the end of summer with a convertible, and not just any drop-top.
This is a beautiful Lexus LC 500, also looking very athletic — and even Aston Martin-like — in dark metallic green with a tan fabric top. It has huge wheels, wide fenders and a slender midsection that makes it look like a big cat about to pounce. Inside is an expanse of rich, light brown leather.
To some, this may seem like a big, cushy cruiser meant to take rich old guys to the golf course. But that could not be further from the truth.
This thing is mean, with a V-8 engine that rips to life and is eager to rev. We found ourselves often driving to nowhere in particular (and doing it rapidly).
While this pleases in the performance department, space is at a premium.
This has a rear seat that could only hold one kid at a time for us (no one could sit behind me, and the front passenger seat had to be scooched forward to use the seat behind it). The trunk is also small and shallow.
The one I drove came in at $110,979, after shipping.
It’s also available as a well-reviewed coupe, but the fun factor of this ragtop is off the charts, even if the practicality isn’t.
If you want an LC 500, this might be the time to act, because of reports it could be gone after 2026.
