Car Review: Lexus’ big SUV is reliably extravagant

Not to set the bar too high, but our latest subject promises “incomparable indulgence.”

So can this big luxury SUV deliver on that lofty goal?

First, step up into this 2025 Lexus LX 700h Luxury. Even though it’s a huge truck-based SUV, you don’t have to step up too much, thanks to its auto-leveling suspension that lowers for an easier entrance.

Also, don’t worry about slamming the doors. Just get yours nearly closed, and the auto door closer will do the rest.

Finally, feel free to grab a nice cold drink from the “cool box” in the center console.

This is Lexus’ king-of-the-hill SUV and it rides more smoothly than any big truck should. This one is painted Atomic Silver with Palomino, or brown, leather-trimmed seats.

Power is very good, with a twin-turbo six-cylinder hybrid setup.

While I loved driving this smooth, massive SUV, I was surprised by the lack of storage with the third-row seat up. If that’s an issue for you, you may want to step down to the Lexus TX, which is actually slightly longer.

Still, getting into the LX’s third row is a piece of cake, as SUVs go, as the second-row seats collapse and fold forward with the press of a button and the help of an electric motor.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not crash tested the LX. There is a spare tire.

A main reason I respect Lexus is quality. In the J.D. Power 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, Lexus ranked highest overall for a third consecutive year.

Just don’t think you can get indulgences on the cheap. This exact one comes in at $121,145.
