Car Review: 2025 Lexus UX 300h adds more power while keeping its high MPG ways

The 2025 Lexus UX 300h is coming out with a new hybrid powertrain that offers more power than before. No longer will you wonder if you can blend in with traffic, because now you can.

The nearly 200hp version of the UX is still an efficient ride. I easily managed over the sticker for MPG in my nearly 600 miles of driving. The 2025 UX also comes with an impressive offering of drivers aids and safety gear for a price tag starting just over $40,000.

The 2025 UX 300h Premium comes nicely equipped with a sunroof, a digital instrument panel, as well as heated and ventilated seats. The fit and finish is top notch for this class of small luxury crossovers with nicer materials than I remember just a few years ago. However, the rear seat leg room is bit tight in this little Lexus.

On the outside, this Lexus shares some styling cues with the larger crossovers and SUVs that the company makes. The large front grill and LED lighting cluster now fall into the Lexus current design language. The UX 300h Premium also comes with 18-inch wheels that give a sportier vibe than you would expect from this gas-saving hybrid. A new UX color for 2025, the expressive Copper Mist, will get you noticed. It was well liked by several people during my week of driving.

Cost: $41,110; as tested $45,485

MPG: 44 MPG City & 40 MPG Highway. I managed 43.1 MPG in 637 miles of mixed driving.

Options: $595 premium paint; $75 wireless phone charger; $250 cold weather package; $950 head-up display; $1,405 Lexus interface with 12.3-inch touch screen with cloud NAV

Safety: Lexus Safety System +3.0; pre-collision system with pedestrian detection; high-speed dynamic radar cruise control; lane departure alert; intelligent high beam headlights; Intuitive parking assistant;

Things to know: The UX gets a power increase for 2025 and it returns the same, or even better MPG than before.

Pros:

  • More power than before and still returns very good MPG
  • A premium, well-appointed interior for its price point
  • Smaller size of this Lexus crossover means it’s easy to drive and park on city streets

Cons:

  • Some rivals offer more space in the back seat
  • Limited space and high lift for the cargo area
  • A touch more wind and road noise at highway speeds
