Man, woman found dead in Frederick were run over, sheriff’s office says

WASHINGTON — Authorities in Frederick, Maryland, say a man and a woman found dead in a roadway early Thursday morning appear to have been run over, and they’re investigating the deaths as homicides.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said a suspect is in custody.

The sheriff’s office said deputies received a call shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday about an assault in progress on Acacia Court, which is a town house community in the southwestern part of Frederick. Officers arrived and discovered a man and a woman on the roadway with serious injuries. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies quickly located the suspect near the scene, and he was taken into custody, the sheriff’s office said. Major Tim Clarke, a sheriff’s office spokesman, told WTOP in an email, authorities believe the man struck both victims with his vehicle and ran them over.

Authorities said they believe all three people knew each other and that everyone who was involved has been located. However, the deaths remain part of an “ongoing and fluid investigation,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

There will be a “heavy sheriff’s office presence” in the Acacia Court area for an extended period of time as authorities investigate the scene.

The sheriff’s office has not yet released the names of the victims or the suspect.
