Patio pleasures: Some of the best outdoor dining in DC

WASHINGTON — The warm weather is here, and one of the best ways to spend the hot and hazy days (and nights) of summer is on a patio with a cold beverage in hand.

Here are some places to check out if you’re looking to dine alfresco.

Calico, an urban backyard tucked away in Blagden Alley features a 3,000-square-foot patio with communal tables surrounding a large vintage greenhouse. Casolare's new outdoor patio “The Deck” sits right outside the Glover Park Hotel. The raised patio features Boozy Sno-Cones in flavors like Blue Passion Lagoon (with vodka, triple sec, blue passion) and also serves draft cocktails and bottled sparkling cocktails as well. The expansive patio offers a variety of sitting options that allows for wonderful views. Fiola Mare is known for highest quality seafood, expertly prepared with an incredible wine list to match. Fish by José Andrés at MGM National Harbor has opened their Patio for the season. With sweeping views of the Potomac River and communal tables outfitted with built-in beverage coolers, The Patio at Fish by José Andrés offers a vibrant setting to try local favorites such as Maryland blue crabs, lobster and shrimp. Fix, the outdoor patio at Morris American Bar, debuts just in time to welcome warmer temperatures. The new concept from beverage guru David Strauss celebrates “fix-style” cocktails — drinks, which came into popularity in the 19th century, are basically boozy Sno-cones. Hanks On The Wharf, the latest in Chef Jamie Leeds empire, is right off the entrance of the new bustling Wharf area. Grab a seat in the wrap around patio that has dock level views of all the yachts, boats and passerbys. Perfect place to slurp oysters, snack on lobster rolls and fried Ipswhich clams. Ivy City's first neighborhood restaurant, they smoke their own seafood, and serve the freshest local and seasonal fish available. Primrose just opened its sunny patio where dinner, weekend lunch, or drinks can all be enjoyed. The wine list — created by owner and DC Somm to the stars, Sebastian Zutant — features hand-selected wines from France as well as Virginia, Sebastian currently makes his own wine with Early Mountain Vineyards, and offers 75 wines by the bottle and more than 15 wines by the glass. When the garages are full, the executive director of The Wharf Community Association suggests drivers "think about parking up at L’Enfant Plaza and walking down the brand-new Banneker Overlook stairs.
