10 summer food and drink festivals

WASHINGTON — Hungry for summer? Yeah, so are we. Here’s a roundup of summer food and drink festivals taking place this season throughout the D.C. area.

Beer, Bourbon and BBQ
Saturday, June 15  This annual multicity touring event stops at National Harbor for a weekend in June. Expect more than 60 beers, more than 40 bourbons and lots of barbecue. (Getty Images)
Portside in Old Town Summer Festival 
Saturday, June 22  Catch a waterfront beer garden from Port City Brewing Company, plus pop-ups from Pizzeria Paradiso, Rockland’s BBQ and Dolci Gelati at Alexandria’s summer cultural festival. There will also be live music (everything from Ethiopian jazz to Latin folk) and family activities. (Sam Kittner)
When the garages are full, the executive director of The Wharf Community Association suggests drivers "think about parking up at L’Enfant Plaza and walking down the brand-new Banneker Overlook stairs. Taste the Philippines: D.C. Filipino Food Festival
Saturday, June 22 Sample Filipino food from some of the area’s best chefs and take in Filipino cultural performances, music and activities for kids on District Pier at The Wharf.   (WTOP/Dave Dildine)

Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle
June 22 and 23  One of the biggest food events in the D.C. area, the Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle brings two days of culinary demonstrations, grilled meats and cooking competitions to the nation’s capital. Plus, more than 30 bands will perform throughout the weekend. (Getty Images)

Smithsonian Folklife Festival
June 29 and 30  Food isn’t the only thing you’ll find at this annual festival on the National Mall. This year’s event celebrates the social power of music, so expect live concerts, instrument-making workshops, a local record label market and more.  (AP/Molly Riley)
Purcellville Wine & Food Festival
Saturday, July 13 Drink (and eat) in the heart of Virginia’s wine country. There will also be live entertainment and activities for adults and children. (AP/Chris Tilley)
Brew at the Zoo

Around the World Cultural Food Festival
