WASHINGTON — If biting into a fresh, hot, sweet doughnut is your idea of heaven, Friday is your day.
June 3 is National Doughnut Day, and many shops, as well as the Salvation Army, which first celebrated the day in 1938, have freebies or special offers.
- Starting at 7 a.m. until they’re gone, The Salvation Army is giving away more than 6,000 free doughnuts at the following D.C. Metrorail stops: Capital South, Foggy Bottom, L’Enfant Plaza, Metro Center and Union Station.
- At District Doughnut at Barracks Row (their Georgetown pop-up will not be open), starting at 7 a.m. until they sell out, they will donate 10 percent of sales to FIRST Skin Foundation in honor of their General Manager Melissa. Her son is dealing with a difficult skin condition.
- At Duck Donuts, get a free sugar doughnut (your choice of Cinnamon Sugar, Bare or Powdered Sugar) with this Facebook offer. No purchase is needed.
- At all Dunkin’ Donuts shops, get a free doughnut of your choice when you buy any beverage.
- At Fractured Prune, freebies vary by location. In Crofton, get a free doughnut of your choice. In Owings Mills, in-store guests get a free OC Sand doughnut.
- At all Krispy Kreme locations, get a free doughnut of any variety. No purchase is necessary.
- At Sugar Shack shops in Alexandria and Arlington, buy a doughnut and you’ll get a free Donut4Good card. The card is good for a free doughnut. You’re encouraged to give the card to someone you know who has done a good deed.
- At The Treat Shop RVA in Richmond, they’re giving away one free glazed doughnut to every customer all day.
