WASHINGTON — Fire crews in Northern Virginia battled two major fires a few miles from each other Wednesday afternoon.
A fire consumed Forest Glen Senior Apartments, a four-story apartment complex located at 14400 Woodmere Court in Centreville, Virginia around 1 p.m. When fire crews arrived, there was a fire in a third-story apartment that “extended into the fourth story and attic area of the building,” said Interim Fire Chief John Caussin.
Emergency crews transported two patients to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. Three people were treated at the scene with minor injuries, according to Fairfax County Fire & Rescue.
About 75 apartment units were evacuated. The displaced residents are receiving help from the local Red Cross, Caussin said.

Fire crews are investigating the cause and origin of the fire at the senior living facility, Caussin said.
The second fire involved two row houses heavily engulfed in the 5800 block of Watermark Circle in Centreville around 1 p.m. There was a structure collapse in the fire, but officials have not released details about the nature of the collapse.

The Centerville fires happened around the same time a massive fire broke out at a residential construction site in Greenbelt, Maryland, sending billowing black smoke into the air.
