Police: Va. Red Robin employee recorded teen in restaurant’s bathroom

WASHINGTON — A 17-year-old Fairfax County Red Robin employee filmed a teenager in the restaurant’s bathroom last week, according to a police investigation.

Fairfax County police said a 15-year-old boy reported being filmed while using the bathroom at the Red Robin location at 13056 Fair Lakes Shopping Center on Dec. 26.

The teen told police he saw “a figure” over his head and noticed a cellphone pointed toward the urinal that seemed to be recording him. The teen confronted the person, later identified as a 17-year-old employee of the restaurant, police said.

The victim left the bathroom and told his mother, who notified the restaurant staff and police.

Initially, restaurant employees would not provide information about the employee to police. The department’s Child Exploitation Unit took over the case and detectives executed a search warrant at the restaurant on Dec. 27.

Police identified the suspect as a 17-year-old boy from the Herndon area. Police are not releasing his name because of his age. There are charges pending against the suspect for unlawful filming of a minor and possession of marijuana.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to please contact the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800.
