82-year-old dies in head-on Fairfax Co. crash

WASHINGTON — An 82-year-old man is dead after a head-on crash in Fairfax County Tuesday morning.

Around 8:15 a.m., a Ford Mustang driving north in the 8400 block of Alban Road in Springfield collided with a Dodge Caliber driving south “almost head-on,” Fairfax County police said.

The driver of the Mustang — identified as 82-year-old William Henry Corum of Lorton, Virginia — was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Caliber was treated for minor injuries at the scene and was released.

Police are working to determine how fast the drivers were traveling at the time of the crash. A preliminary investigation found that alcohol does not appear to be a factor, police said.

The crash and its investigation closed Alban Road for several hours Tuesday morning.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
