WASHINGTON — A teenager has been found dead after he disappeared in a Fairfax County, Virginia, lake Thursday night.
Witnesses say the 17-year-old boy was swimming in Lake Barcroft when he slipped under the water and did not return to the surface.
Authorities launched an extensive search effort through the overnight hours.
“Unfortunately, at one point it transitioned from a rescue mission to a recovery effort,” said Fairfax County Police Officer Megan Hawkins.
The boy’s body was discovered around 3 a.m. Friday. He has been identified as Jeremie Munga, of Falls Church.
His cause of death remains under investigation, but police say it does not appear to be suspicious.
