Fairfax Co. school worker charged with stealing students’ lunch money

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) — Police have charged a cafeteria kitchen manager with stealing lunch money from elementary students’ accounts.

Fairfax County Police announced Friday they have charged 51-year-old Fadwa Sarsaur of Alexandria with three counts of embezzlement, and that she turned herself in to authorities Friday afternoon.

Court records do not yet list an attorney.

Police believe Sarsaur stole large sums of money over a three-year period from Baileys Elementary in the Falls Church section of the county. Police spokeswoman Monica Meeks said the investigation is ongoing, but officers believe the theft totaled thousands of dollars.

Police began their investigation last week after a school system supervisor discovered discrepancies in several accounts.

Fairfax County Public Schools spokesman John Torre said Sarsaur has been suspended without pay.
