Va. man charged with assault for allegedly shooting at police

WASHINGTON — The Franconia man accused of shooting at Fairfax County police is now charged with assault on law enforcement officers and will next be in court April 11.

Police say Syed Javid, 19, became involved in a barricade situation Wednesday night when officers called to his home were greeted with gunfire.

No officers were hit.

That happened around 5 p.m. Wednesday on Larkspur Drive off Franconia Road.

About 90 minutes later, Javid exited his home and refused to drop a gun and rifle he held at the time, according to police.

Javid was taken into custody after officers fired beanbags and rubber bullets at him. Javid was also bitten by a police dog.
