Local man raises $30K for Kenny Loggins to sing in his living room

WASHINGTON — There’s a concert happening in the living room of a Fairfax County home and Erick Sanchez made it happen.

Sanchez, a self-described “super fan,” raised more than $30,000 through Kickstarter to have singer Kenny Loggins play a gig at his home.

Loggins and his band had their own Kickstarter to raise money for their album. Those who contributed the most money could have Loggins play a show in their living room.

“So I got in touch with his management and figured out what that amount would cost,” Sanchez told WTOP. “Then knowing I couldn’t do that personally, I went ahead and started my own Kickstarter project to be able to fund the amount of that exclusive opportunity.”

More than 230 people donated to the #LogginsLivingRoom effort, and only about 50 who donated $300 or more will have a seat in the Sanchez family living room for this Sunday’s show.

Depending on their pledge level, patrons will enjoy treats like “Danger Zone” cupcakes from Politics to Pastries, Goodies Frozen Custard & Treats, and Sanchez’ own famous guacamole.

There are limited edition T-shirts that read: “One Night Only — Kenny Loggins Plays Some Dude’s Living Room.”

“This will definitely be a small piece of music history, having this be the first crowdfunded, fan-generated performance to happen in a private residence,” Sanchez said.

The concert will include Loggins, his band Blue Sky Riders and country singer and multi-instrumentalist Jessy Lynn Martens, who provided the voice for Cherlene in Season 5 of the FX TV show “Archer.”

“She’ll join the band for a special performance of ‘Danger Zone’,” Sanchez said.

Sanchez, who is a PR consultant in D.C., got a lot of publicity for his Kickstarter campaign — even landing himself an appearance via Skype on national late night TV.

He says his Jimmy Kimmel experience was fun, but also “completely nerve wracking.”

Sanchez said he’s been busy lately, getting ready for the big event.

“I’ve been working with his management just in terms of making sure the visit is smooth, as well as working with everyone who donated, making sure the invitations are out, creating a seating chart, just getting everything together so that the overall experience for everyone is completely memorable, and I have no doubt that it will be.”

All told, Sanchez hopes this starts a trend.

“Hopefully more artists will line up like Loggins and his band did to provide these very unique experiences and really engage their fans in a whole new way,” Sanchez said.
