Driver, 22, charged in death of woman at bus stop in Springfield, Va.

WASHINGTON — Fairfax County police have a charged a man with DUI after he allegedly hit a  47-year-old woman while waiting for a bus on Old Keene Mill Road near Greeley Boulevard Saturday.

Senait Mamo, of Springfield, was struck by a 2005 Acura at around 2:05 p.m., according to a police release. The car was travelling eastbound on Old Keene Mill when the driver lost control and struck her, before driving up a small embankment, then back onto the roadway, crossing a median, and driving into the westbound lanes, where it struck another vehicle.

The victim died at the scene.

Police charged the Acura driver, Corey English, 22, of Fredericksburg, Va., with driving while intoxicated. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Detectives believe speed and alcohol are factors in the crash. Additional charges are pending further investigation.

The driver and two passengers in the Acura were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where they were treated and released for their injuries. The driver of the second vehicle, a 43-year-old Springfield woman, was also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injures.
