2 DC men charged in stabbing near Washington Convention Center

WASHINGTON — Two men were arrested and charged Friday in connection with an assault that sent another man to the hospital with serious knife wounds, D.C. police say.

Police responded to reports of a man suffering from multiple knife wounds on the 700 block of N Street Northwest, near the Washington Convention Center just before noon.

The man was taken to Howard University Hospital with serious injuries. He has not been identified.

Deon Jones, 46, of Southeast D.C., was arrested and charged with assault and intent to kill while armed with a knife.

Kenneth Hughes, 30, of Northwest D.C., was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence related to the crime. He was seen throwing a knife into a sewer drain as officers arrived at the scene.

The victim has not been charged with any crimes, police said.
