Toddler shot in Southeast DC

WASHINGTON — A young girl is in the hospital after she was shot Saturday afternoon in Southeast D.C.

Police said the shooting happened just after 3 p.m. on the 2500 block of Pomeroy Road close to Suitland Parkway.

The girl was described by police as a toddler, but they did not confirm her specific age. The girl was shot in the leg. Police said she was conscious and breathing when she was taken to the hospital.

A D.C. police spokesman said juveniles were playing with a firearm and it discharged, shooting the girl. The investigation is ongoing.
