DC family rescued from burning apt. building

WASHINGTON — A family in Southeast had to be rescued from a burning apartment building by fire department ladder.

The fire broke out around 4 a.m. inside a second-floor apartment in a three-story building in the 100 block of Xenia Street in Southeast.

Three adults and two children were trapped in a unit on the third floor, the fire department tweeted.

Crews used a ladder to help get them down, while everyone else in the building was able to shelter in place.

One person suffered an ankle injury. The fire was doused in about 10 minutes.

Firefighters are trying to figure out what caused the fire.
