More than 10 years later, man charged in 2 Georgetown sex assault cases

WASHINGTON — D.C. police have arrested a Montgomery County, Maryland, man in connection to two sexual assault cases from 2002 and 2004 in the Georgetown area.

Benjamin Filoberto Paz, 53, of Montgomery Village, Maryland, was arrested Wednesday, the police department’s sexual assault cold case unit said. But D.C. police did not provide additional information about what led to the arrest after so many years.

In the first case on June 16, 2002 in the 3300 block of Prospect Street Northwest, the victim was asleep in her home, but awakened when an unknown suspect sexually assaulted her. The suspect then ran off.

The second assault happened on Feb. 22, 2004 in the same block. Similar to the previous assault, the victim was asleep at home when she woke up to an unknown suspect sexually assaulting her. The suspect ran off again.

Paz has been charged with first-degree sexual abuse, two counts of burglary one and several other charges relating to sexual abuse.
