DC home under renovation partially collapses during fire

WASHINGTON — A Northwest home under renovation partially collapsed after a fire Monday morning.

Doug Buchanan, a spokesman for D.C. Fire and EMS, said a paramedic was driving by and saw the Iowa Avenue home fully engulfed in flames just before 5 a.m.

No one was inside the home that sits near Georgia Avenue, across the street from Theodore Roosevelt High School.

Eight people from a neighboring unit were evacuated, but no one was hurt.

One firefighter sustained minor burns.

An investigation into the cause and origin of the fire has been delayed because the building is not stable.
