Man dies from cardiac arrest after trying to help girl struck by car in Northeast DC

WASHINGTON — A man went into cardiac arrest while attempting to help an 8-year-old girl after she was struck by a car in Northeast D.C. Saturday night.

The girl was hit by a car around 8:50 p.m. in the 5300 block of Chillum Place NE, police said. The man came to help the girl, but went into cardiac arrest.

“We immediately began working to revive him,” said Vito Maggiolo, public information officer with D.C. Fire and EMS.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The girl suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital. Police said she is going to be OK.

Police are still investigating.
