Someone stole a 3-month-old female, brown tabby kitten named Princess Jazzy from the Washington Humane Society-Washington Animal Rescue League Adoption Center on New York Avenue in Northeast Saturday afternoon. WHS/WARL requested help from the public Tuesday and announced Wednesday that Princess Jazzy had been retrieved.

On Saturday, WHS/WARL staff members were able to record a license plate number from a vehicle leaving the adoption center shortly after the kitten was reported missing.  D.C. police used the license plate information and found the kitten.

WHS/WARL President and CEO Lisa LaFontaine thanked the alert staff members and D.C. police for their roles in finding and returning Princess Jazzy.

“This case is another example of how we will do everything possible to protect the animals in our community, regardless of their size, species or age,” LaFontaine said in a news release. “We are especially relieved because Princess Jazzy was under medical treatment prior to the theft and she will now continue to get the care she needs as she awaits adoption into a responsible and loving home.”

The incident is still under investigation and WHS/WARL has not released information about the person who stole the kitten. It is not yet clear if the suspect faces charges.
