WASHINGTON — Joy to the capital: Free ice cream has arrived.
While much of Washington clears out in August for cooler temperatures and some R & R, those powering through have a pretty sweet perk. For the next three weeks, Good Humor will be slinging free favorites around town.
“You don’t need a wallet; you don’t need your iPhone — it’s all free,” says Guy Berliner, of Berliner Specialty Distributors. “We thought, how much fun would it be to go out, retrofit an old-fashioned Good Humor truck and just give away free ice cream?”
The modified truck is a 1965 F100 retrofitted with a 2014 F150 with two DeLorean-style wings.
Good Humor has handed out free ice cream in D.C. before, notably during the federal government shutdown.
But this venture, dubbed “Joyhood,” will carry on through most of the month.
The first stop on the tour will be at the Ronald Reagan Building Moynihan Plaza, starting at 12 p.m. Tuesday.
The company will announce daily locations via its Twitter account, @GoodHumor.
