Man dies after morning fire in D.C.

WASHINGTON — A man is dead after a fire ripped through a rowhouse in Northeast D.C. Sunday  morning.

D.C. fire officials say the blaze broke out at about 10:45 a.m. on Eastern Avenue near Riggs Road on the first and second floors of the home.

A man was taken to a hospital, where he later died. A woman who lived in the home was also taken to the hospital, and is expected to survive.

WTOP’s Jay Hoeflinger reports that the home had “rat-pack’” conditions, potentially impacting the rescue effort.
