WASHINGTON — A billion-dollar airport improvement project means traffic changes are in play for some passengers using Reagan National.

Starting Monday, all the airport and hotel shuttles operating on the lower level of Terminals B and C are being moved to the upper floor, the ticketing level.

All parking, rental, hotel and other off-airport shuttle pickup and drop-off locations for Terminals B and C at Reagan National are also moving to the ticketing level.

The shuttle service at Terminal A will not be affected by the changes.

Travelers are urged to follow signs inside the ticketing level and along the curb to reach the new pickup locations for each service.

The billion-dollar improvement work is called Project Journey and the airport has set up a designated website to document the changes and how they will affect passengers.

The overhaul includes new security checkpoints and a new commuter terminal slated to open in 2021.

Users of Uber and Lyft are also affected by the project. Pickup locations for both services temporarily moved to the ticketing level last week.

The ride-share apps will notify passengers of pickup location options when they request a ride. The options will be outside doors 2, 3 or 4 along the ticketing curb.

Uber and Lyft service at Terminal A will not be affected by the change.

“In many ways, the passenger experience during Project Journey construction will not functionally change,” said Airports Authority Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Margaret McKeough in a prepared statement.

“Departing passengers will continue using the existing roadways, walkways, ticket counters and security checkpoints with few exceptions. Arriving passengers will use the same pathways, but roadway and curbside changes outside the baggage claim level of Terminal B/C will be noteworthy. We will work hard to keep everyone informed of significant events that could affect their journey,” McKeough said.

Airlines and flights will continue operating throughout the project.

The makeover will mean other traffic changes will happen at the airport over the coming months; they will be implemented in phases.
