Former Maryland police officer sentenced for child sex abuse

WASHINGTON — A former District Heights, Maryland, police officer will spend more than 10 years in jail for sexually abusing a child.

In May 2017, the Charles County Department of Social Services received a report of child sexual abuse involving Douglas Parks Jr., 48, of Waldorf, Maryland.

Law enforcement officials contacted the victim and discovered that she was abused by Parks repeatedly for about two years, beginning when she was about 8 years old.

Parks’ actions included showing the victim pornographic material and engaging in sexual acts with her, according to a Charles County news release.

The abuse was discovered 10 years later.

Parks pleaded guilty in October 2017. He will serve 11 years in jail of a 25-year sentence.
