Md. authorities seek witnesses and 4 suspects in teen’s assault

Charles County(Danny Yi)

WASHINGTON — Charles County, Maryland, authorities want to talk with anyone who tried helping a girl after she was abducted and sexually assaulted Feb. 17 in Waldorf.

They also want the public’s help in finding four suspects — one of whom might have been wearing a monitoring device on his ankle.

The 16-year-old victim, who was visiting the area from California, was walking on Melrose Court in Waldorf around 1 a.m., according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

As she talked on her phone, a dark-colored vehicle passed by several times, then stopped. A male reportedly exited the vehicle and began talking to the girl. Another male then exited, and the pair dragged the girl into the car, which had two additional passengers, authorities said.

The suspects, who were armed, then sexually assaulted the girl, sheriff’s officials said. Roughly two hours later, the men pushed her out of the vehicle and fled.

As the victim walked toward a convenience store to get help, several passers-by stopped to offer help, officials said, but she declined due to both a language barrier and her hesitancy to get into a car with a stranger.

She later acquiesced when another passer-by, described as an elderly black man, offered help, police said. The man drove her back to where she was staying and made sure she got inside safely.

The girl was later treated at a hospital.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have stopped to offer the victim assistance — somewhere near Post Office Road — to contact them.

The suspects’ car was described as a newer four-door model, possibly a Jeep Cherokee, with dark-tinted windows and an American flag sticker on the lower passenger side front windshield, authorities said. The vehicle also reportedly had a dark-colored leather interior.

Descriptions of 4 suspects

Sheriff’s officials described the four suspects as follows:

  • “Suspect 1” is a black male, possibly in his 20s. He has a goatee and large tattoo of an angel on the left side of his neck, and another tattoo with writing across the lower stomach. He was wearing: a blue skull cap with stripes; a large North Face brand jacket; a True Religion brand shirt; black jeans with white stitching; blue Nike shoes; and a small gold chain on his neck with a circular piece of gold with diamonds on it. He also had an electronic monitoring device on his ankle.
  • “Suspect 2” is a black male, also possibly in his 20s. He has shoulder-length dreadlocks, worn in a ponytail. He was wearing: a black-and-white shirt (with a picture of a male on the front wearing a gold chain holding the chain up from the neck with both hands); black pants; black Jordan Retro 2 shoes; a black North Face brand jacket; and a gray belt.
  • “Suspect 3” is a black male, also possibly in his 20s. He has a heavy/large build, a teardrop tattoo below his left eye, a thin mustache, green eyes, short black hair, and a right eyebrow with a vertical scar. He was wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt with the hood up; a black shirt; a black North Face brand jacket; khaki pants; a gray belt; and black shoes.
  • “Suspect 4” is a black male, also possibly in his 20s. He has a tattoo on the back of his right arm (which was a picture with writing) and very short hair. He was wearing a black shirt (possibly a True Religion brand shirt); a black North Face brand jacket; running-style pants; and Jordan brand sneakers that were black/gray/blue/red.

Anyone who offered to help the victim or who may have information about the attack is asked to contact Charles County Crime Solvers. They’re offering up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment in the case.
