Potomac teen runner Quincy Wilson set to make his Olympic debut Friday
The Olympic dreams for an area teenager looking to make history in Paris is set to make his debut on Friday.
Quincy Wilson, track star for the Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland, will be running in the 4×400 meter men’s relay. On a Instagram post, Wilson called for fans to “tune in Friday morning,” posting the time for the race.
Multiple reports say he will lead off for Team USA.
Once he runs in Paris, Wilson will become the youngest male U.S. track and field Olympian in history.
Wilson became a member of the U.S. relay poll after finishing sixth at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Wilson drew a lot of attention recently at the U.S. Olympic Trials for his 400-meter dash.
He broke the world record for runners under 18 years old by running it in 44.66 seconds — but it didn’t last long. Shortly after, Wilson then broke his own record by running it in 44.59 seconds.
Kevin Durant passes Lisa Leslie for career U.S. Olympic scoring record
Kevin Durant stands alone in U.S. Olympic basketball scoring history.
Durant is now the career leader in points for the U.S. in Olympic competition, passing Lisa Leslie for the mark during the Americans’ quarterfinal game against Brazil on Tuesday.
Durant’s basket with 3:06 left in the third quarter gave him six points in the game and 489 in his four Olympic appearances. Leslie finished her four Olympic appearances with 488 points and four gold medals.
He finished with 11 points, so the record is 494 — and counting.
U.S. rolls into semifinals of Paris Olympic basketball tournament, eases past Brazil 122-87
PARIS (AP) — There was a moment where Brazil might have thought it had a chance. It trailed the U.S. by only eight midway through the second quarter. A big deficit had turned into something rather manageable.
The moment was short-lived.
A 21-2 run turned things into their predictable blowout state and for the 20th time in 20 Olympic appearances, the U.S. will play for a medal. Devin Booker led a balanced front with 18 points and the Americans had little trouble with Brazil in the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics, winning 122-87 on Tuesday night.
The U.S. (4-0) moves on to face Serbia (3-1) in Thursday’s semifinals, while Germany (4-0) takes on France (3-1) in the other semifinal. Winners of those games will play Saturday night for the gold medal; Thursday’s losers will play Saturday morning for the bronze medal.

Smith’s extra-time goal earned the United States a spot in the gold medal match at the Paris Olympics with a 1-0 semifinal victory over Germany on Tuesday.
The Americans, undefeated in France under new coach Emma Hayes, will be vying for their fifth gold medal in their sixth appearance in the Olympic women’s soccer final.
The United States will play Brazil, which defeated Spain 4-2 in the late match, in the tournament final on Saturday in Paris. Germany will play Spain for the bronze medal on Friday at Lyon.
Harvard graduate Gabby Thomas sprints to 200-meter gold medal for the United States by a big margin
Before Gabby Thomas set foot on the Stade de France’s purple track, surrounded by 80,000 or so screaming spectators, her coach gave her some last-minute advice.
“The only thing I needed to do was get the lead. Get the lead and then finish strong,” Thomas said, recounting Tonja Buford-Bailey’s counsel. “And I did that.”
She sure did. Following precisely that easier-said-than-done plan, Thomas, a 27-year-old Harvard graduate, sped to the victory in the women’s 200 meters at the 2024 Olympics on Tuesday night, finishing in 21.83 seconds to add a gold to the bronze she took home in the event from Tokyo three years ago.
Noah Lyles back on track at Olympics for a no-drama run through first round of 200 meters
Noah Lyles returned to the track Monday night to start the quest for his second Olympic gold medal, cruising through his first-round 200-meter heat in 20.19 seconds.
Lyles beat defending Olympic champion Andre De Grasse of Canada by .11 seconds in what was a routine, no-drama run through the curve — in other words, everything his title race in the 100 the night before was not.
Simone Biles finishes off her return to the Olympics with a silver on floor exercise
American gymnast Simone Biles didn’t get the golden sendoff she sought.
Biles earned silver in the floor exercise finals on Monday — her fourth medal in Paris and 11th Olympic medal overall — after a routine that included a couple of costly steps out of bounds.
Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade became the first gymnast to beat Biles in a floor final in a major international competition, posting a score of 14.166 that finished just ahead of Biles at 14.133.
Jordan Chiles, a longtime friend and teammate of Biles, earned the bronze.

The American gymnastics star slipped and fell off the apparatus at the end of her acrobatic series during the Paris Games’ beam finals Monday, denying her an opportunity to add to the bronzes she won on the event at the 2016 and 2020 Games.
Wearing a blue-and-white leotard featuring over 5,000 crystals, Biles was more than halfway through her set when she couldn’t quite keep her balance. The 27-year-old hopped off the beam and onto the mat while thousands inside a packed Bercy Arena let out an audible “ohhh.”
Biles received a score of 13.100, tied with U.S. teammate Sunisa Lee for fourth.
