WASHINGTON – A house fire near the Pentagon spewed thick black smoke into the air Thursday afternoon.
The fire, which began about noon, damaged a two-story house in the 1000 block of South Rolfe Street. The Arlington County Fire Department says that all occupants were outside the house when crews arrived and there were no injuries.
One lane of Columbia Pike was blocked, slowing traffic in the area of South Rolfe Street.
The initial tower of smoke could be seen from the Pentagon, Interstate 395 and Georgetown.
The fire department says that the house’s smoke alarms did not activate. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
